Research

Research in the health and care sciences focuses on people’s experiences of ill health, disease and suffering. The research is conducted in conjunction with recovery, the retention and promotion of good health as well as in sociocultural structures and in relation to the body as a biological system. People’s learning is a central part of health and care sciences, as is the organisation of healthcare.

Research groups

Research centres

The University of Gothenburg Centre for Person-centred Care (GPCC) and the Centre for Culture and Health are two of the university’s research centres that are part of this institute.

Research profile

Person-centred care is one of the institute’s strong research profiles. Within nursing and care science research, there has been a long tradition of focusing on the person being cared for and not just on the disease. By introducing the term “person-centred care”, researchers at the institute have continued this tradition and developed knowledge that is both used in education and applied and evaluated in medical care.

Strategic investment

GPCC was established at the department in 2010. It is a national and interdisciplinary centre supported by the government’s strategic investment in care science research. There is also a research group at the department that focuses on person-centred care in long-term conditions.
